maker faire

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Mini Maker Faire will be back at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 14, 2016 with giant sculptures, unusual vehicles, robots, textiles, lasers and more. Following up on last year’s successful inaugural event which brought more than 4,000 visitors together for the one-day festival,  the 2016 Minneapolis/St. Paul Mini Maker Faire will be more than double the size with 250 local and regional makers who will showcase, demonstrate and share interactive creations with the public during this family-friendly event. With so many makers and activities there will be something for everyone to enjoy as we celebrate creativity and imagination.

The call for makers, artists, performers, speakers and other exhibitors is now open. If you are a tinkerer, coder, woodworker, crafter, farm hacker, artist, student, designer, chemist, roboticist, entrepreneur, scientist, food inventor, metalworker, educator, green technology creator, inventor, corporate designer or bicycle builder apply now to share your projects at the Faire. If you are interested in being a maker and have questions about the event or application process, come to Leonardo’s Basement on Friday, March 11 between 5-8 pm to get your questions answered and to meet other local makers. Advance registration is requested.

About Maker Media

Maker Faire is the brainchild of Maker Media and the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2014 celebrated its ninth annual show with some 1100 makers and 130,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in four years to 600+ makers and 80,000 attendees. Detroit, Kansas City, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Orlando, Silver Spring, Paris, Rome, Oslo, Trondheim, Tokyo, Newcastle (UK), and Shenzhen are the home of larger-scale, “featured” Maker Faires and over 120 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the world.
